Okay, I am new to working in downtown baltimore and I have been slightly peturbed on the quality of food to eat and number of places to go. I am just hoping that since I am new I am missing out on all the good places. If anyone could recommend food that would make me happy. I tend to like international food and healthy eating. Not big on Quiznos, Subway, McDonalds, Cheescake Factory.
Thanks much!!!
ps- I work on s. charles.

Re: Downtown Baltimore- Places to eat
Sun, December 23, 2007 - 8:07 PMyou have lexington market right there on s. charles, for a quick sushi, nice cheese, you know, market food.
then there's down town, not at the harbour, where you can find some great jamaican, in a rustic, colourful and romantic atmosphere. i don't know addresses of the top of my head, but i could find out if you don't find them under "jamaican" in the yellow pages' restaurants section.
and then threre are the little frenchies, petit louis and tatin. i like the brass elephant on n.charles, and the (pricy) prime rib off of n.charles
(chase st.). there is a nice afghan place, helmand, which is owned by the afghan president's very own brother. oh, and if you are into indian, try akbar, or for an even greater experience (and a visual as well), the ambassador will surely provide.
hope this gets you started.

Re: Downtown Baltimore- Places to eat
Wed, January 9, 2008 - 6:34 AMHaha - I was kind of wondering about that. I mean... Lexington Market? Just kidding. I'm glad to not be alone in my Cross St. suggestion.
Oh! And if you feel like paying through the nose, Harborplace has lots of restaurants, as does Fell's Point. There's Whole Foods as well, and right next to that is a nice Mexican place and Chiu's Sushi... which is sex. -

Re: Downtown Baltimore- Places to eat
Mon, February 25, 2008 - 7:37 AMIck...I prefer Paper Moon by far. I WAS a Baltimoron until 2 years ago, moved to a bit north of Vegas.....but come back every so often.
Helmand on Read St. has AWESOME Afghani food. Favorite restaurant in the U.S., seriously. -

Re: Downtown Baltimore- Places to eat
Mon, February 25, 2008 - 7:38 AMAnd if Cosmo's is still open in Canton, excellent chocolate martinis', but the Chesapeake Wine and Cheese Co. makes a PURPLE cosmopolitan to die for. -
-
Re: Downtown Baltimore- Places to eat
Mon, February 25, 2008 - 7:47 AMI live right near the Chesapeake wine company. I will have to try out their purple cosmo.

Re: Downtown Baltimore- Places to eat
Tue, February 26, 2008 - 7:32 PMSip n Bite is one of my old favorites- i used to work in Fells Point, and I'd get off at eleven or twelve... it was a quick bike ride away and always cheap and open.
-Red Emma's Bookstore Cofeeshop: has excellent fair trade organic coffee at much cheaper than either the Donna's up the street or the Starbucks around the corner. Delicious bagel sandwiches, assorted baked goods, sometimes seasonal soups. Great books too! 800 St. Paul street, corner of St. Paul and Madison
-Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant- really really good, reasonably priced ethiopian food. Good for groups of people. 1100 Maryland Ave
-There are a ton of Korean restaurants off of Charles and St. Paul's streets in the area just above North Avenue. Some of them can be interesting adventures in the unknown, since the menus are sometimes vague, but it's worth the risk.
-Iggies Pizza on 818 N. Calvert St. Inventive neopolitan pizzas, very yummy.
-Kumari on 911 N Charles St. Good indian food, good prices. Best items on the menu are the Nepalese foods. Conveniently located directly above Liam's Pint Sized Pub, a nice little bar owned by a friend of mine. You can order food from Kumari to be delivered downstairs to Liam's.
-For seriously crappy greasy food, go to Never On Sundays, corner of Read and Charles. Open till 3 on Fridays and Saturdays. Can always be relied upon to have decent fries and big pieces of greasy pizza when you need something other than booze in your belly. -
